SafeMinds for Headspace, with 2and2
2and2 provide online digital experiences that educate and inspire. Their approach brings expert educators and communications specialists into the same creative space. They draw on diverse resources such as education, computer games, consumer and luxury brand marketing, software development, artificial intelligence and academia.
Their client, Headspace is a youth mental health initiative established by the Australian government in 2006. The initiative offers support for those aged 12 to 25 years old on a range of issues including depression, anxiety, stress, alcohol and drug use, sexuality, sexual health, personal or family relationship issues and bullying.
Headspace was launching a new project called SAFEMinds, a professional learning and resource package for schools and families to support young people with mental health issues.
They engaged 2and2 to create an online interactive platform, which involved storytelling videos to help parents, teachers and kids themselves understand what they were going through.
As 2and2’s video production partner, TEN ALPHAS had the task of producing the videos for this project.
We created four five-minute short films, each following a children with a specific mental health issue. We filmed on location in Sydney schools, and sourced 20 actors, many of which were children with limited acting experience. We filmed over four days, and Jonathan our director was able to garner some beautiful performances from the young actors.
The four online educational videos we produced were very touching and emotionally engaging, and Headspace was thrilled with the results. SAFEMinds has since been very successful in starting a conversation between parents, teachers and kids with mental health issues.
