Hackathon Event Video for Telstra

 

THE CLIENT

Telstra recently joined forces with Cisco, a global provider of ready-to-use cloud platforms. Through this alliance, Telstra can take advantage of Cisco’s global cloud muscle, and Cisco can sell its global offerings to the Australian market without needing to invest in local services capabilities on the ground.

THE CHALLENGE

As part of a go-to-market marketing campaign to promote this partnership, Telstra organised a hackathon called “Hacktivate”. Non-for-profits were asked to submit issues they had, eg problems their businesses were experiencing. Teams of developers, both from within Telstra and from other companies, were then challenged to solve these issues within 48 hours with the help of cloud computing.
Telstra commissioned TEN ALPHAS to cover Hacktivate.

THE SOLUTION

The Hackathon was held in 2 locations, Sydney and Melbourne, over a long weekend. We sent a two-man crew to film in each location, who interviewed the clients, the developers and the executives as to why they were doing the hackathon, how they were doing it and how they were feeling as the hours were progressing. We produced two main pieces of content, an event video and a team journey video, as well as some expert content, with Telstra staff explaining the technology and software that were being used.

THE RESULT

The videos have had over 200,000 views on YouTube and were phenomenally successful in bringing the Telstra-Cisco partnership to the wider community.
